Italian fashion as we know it today began in 1951 with wool scarves. A man by the name of Count Giorgini decided to make a fashion show so people could see his designs and enjoy his clothes. He set up a bar and chairs around an empty area on the floor and he had three women walk between the tables so people could see his dresses.
This was the beginning of what we know today and what we see every day where beautiful women walk on stages wearing exclusive dresses designed for the occasion or appearing in TV commercials taking a slow shower with goat milk soaps. On the sides you have buyers, some of them work for companies some represent themselves and yet others are only there to look and enjoy the show.
When the count saw that his idea was well received by the people and that in fact he sold several models to the ladies present, he decide to repeat it. His shows and sales continued and he established a set schedule for his shows. He decided to separate the common people from those who belonged to rich families or royalty; he would show them exclusive models that he sold for astronomical prices.
On other days and different places he sold similar clothes but made with cheaper fabrics and less elaborated than those sold to the ladies to the common women who longed to look like the ladies in their great dresses. This is the way fashion shows started and have evolved to what we know today.
Italy has many famous fashion designers, both male and female and even more fashion models who tour the world showing off dresses that no one will ever buy. The world of fashion has turned into a huge multimillion dollar business since the count got the idea to try to sell his dresses by showing them to many women at the same time.
Italian fashion evolved very fast because of its access to many different fabrics and materials imported from Asia and America. The relationship with the surrounding countries and their cultures only helped to fuel the fire until Italy became leader and focal point of fashion in Europe. For many years Italy was queen of fashion in Europe and the world until the 1960’s and 1970’s when fashion designers started popping up all over the world.
Many of these new designers went to school in the high fashion schools of Milan and Rome where they learned with the great masters. After finishing school they each headed for his or her country where they developed their own styles using the knowledge and training received in Italy. Today many countries have their own fashions and styles. Some of them even have high fashion schools where men and women go with a dream to one day see their clothes being modeled on a stage in Milan between designs created by today’s masters.
The fashion industry is very exclusive and does not allow just anyone inside its doors for Mayan Riviera. You must earn the privilege of watching your creations being modeled under the lights in London, Paris or Milan.
