World fashion is very erratic; you never know what will be in fashion the next season. It is so difficult to deal with it that you cannot program or make decision that go farther than one season. Things start to follow a certain trend and all of a sudden a new ideas pops up somewhere and everything changes and goes another way.
One thing is sure though many styles used in the fifties and sixties keep returning in new colors and styles but there is always a tendency to bring back fashions and designs used many years ago. Why not do it, what was good then is still good now. Women change and their activities change and their ways to look at things change too but fashion designers have learned to adapt old styles and clothes to these new circumstances.
The truth is that people in this day and age want to look good but they also want to feel comfortable in their clothes. They are not willing to sacrifice their physical comfort by inserting themselves into heavy or tight clothes. They want to be free to move, they want air to come in touch with their skin and to feel the breeze. Fashion designers understand with so they work in giving people what they want and need. People do not follow their guidelines anymore; they follow the people’s desires.
World fashion is not based any more on the whims of the few; it is designed for the masses. Even if the materials are expensive and the dress or pants are designed by the masters they follow the same lines that regular every day clothes follow. Even the movie stars and singers wear the same clothes everybody wears to work and for play. They may be exclusive models or made with sophisticated fabrics and they may have golden accessories, but when you take all the glamour off, the dress is the same one worn by your wife to work every day.
Of course there will always be the high fashion shows we all like to watch, where the skinny models wear feathers and crazy looking clothes that look great on them on stage. These will never go away; these are where the masters of fashion show off their art. But not even famous people or crazy people buy these to go out on the street, they are just for show. The real fashion shows are not shown on television, the shows were the great department stores pick the models they will be selling next season are private and secret.
The future of every day fashion now is not in the hands of the masters, it is in the hands of the people. They get to chose what is in and what is out. You will probably see more and more models and accessories from long gone times make a comeback. This does not mean that fashion designers have run out of new ideas, it means that they have improved the original and that they are bringing it back because it was a success in its time.
